Abstract: This paper examines the rise of modern architecture in Bombay during the 1950s, focusing on four key structures: Jehangir Art Gallery, Petroleum House, Darshan Apartments, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. These buildings reflect the influence of modernism while responding to the socio-economic and cultural changes of post-independence India. Through an analysis of their design and architectural features, the study highlights how modernism was adapted to suit local contexts.
