Abstract: This exhibition traces the development of contemporary Japanese architecture over a decade marked by economic boom and bust. Initially flourishing during the bubble economy with bold, excessive designs, architecture later entered a reflective phase following the collapse. Rather than rejecting that era, architects have built on its innovations, now working with reduced budgets while maintaining design diversity. The exhibition organizes works into seven categories—metropolises, medium-size cities, towns and villages, suburbs, reclaimed land, countryside, and resort areas—to show how architecture responds to shifting social contexts. It emphasizes that architecture reflects not just design trends, but the climate, society, and spirit of the times.
