Abstract: This studio addresses sanitation infrastructure challenges in Mumbai’s informal settlements, focusing on a specific community with an organized group as the primary client. The aim is to develop an in-situ upgrading strategy where sanitation improvements reorganize water supply, sewage, and community spaces. Students explore governance and financial models to ensure sustainable sanitation solutions that can inspire broader transformation across informal settlements. Collaboration with the Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI) and Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute (LMSAI) provides site research and expert input. The studio offers practical engagement with a critical urban issue, aiming to enhance living conditions in underserved areas.
