Abstract: Gay Bombay: Globalization, Love and Belonging in Contemporary India examines how urban gay men in India navigate identity, intimacy, and community amid globalization and modern urban life. Combining personal narratives and ethnography, it explores how digital media and social networks—both online and offline—shape visibility, connection, and belonging. The book also analyzes media representations of same-sex desire and tensions between Westernized portrayals and lived realities. Social pressures, familial expectations, and heteronormative norms further influence choices around love and marriage. Ultimately, it highlights the fluid, hybrid nature of queer belonging in contemporary India, revealing the complex interplay of global and local influences.
