Abstract: The German Apsara Conservation Project (GACP) at Angkor Wat aims to preserve and document the temple’s detailed bas-reliefs, especially the Apsara figures. Using advanced techniques like slit-scan photography, photo-monitoring, and a computerized documentation system, the project tracks the condition of the stone reliefs. A risk map identifies endangered areas, guiding targeted conservation. GACP also investigates the impact of climatic stress on Angkor Wat’s sandstone and carries out emergency interventions. Supported by archive research, detective methods, and specialized repair systems, the project ensures the sustainable conservation of this UNESCO World Heritage site for future generations.
