Abstract: This book addresses the long-standing need for a comprehensive guide to navigating the complex approval processes in the building industry, particularly in Bombay. The author reflects on the challenges faced throughout his career, especially in obtaining necessary approvals. These challenges arise not from a lack of knowledge of the relevant rules and regulations, but from unfamiliarity with the appropriate procedures. Over many years, the author has meticulously gathered information on the procedures of various departments within the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC), which has now been compiled and updated for the benefit of architects, engineering staff, and others involved in the building industry. Despite extensive knowledge of the D.C. Rules, Building Bye-laws, and numerous circulars, architects often struggle to secure approvals without understanding the evolving procedures. This book, presented in a chronological order, is an effort to simplify and clarify these processes. The author expresses gratitude to Shri A.K. Deodhar, a retired BMC Assistant Engineer, for his valuable support, as well as to his wife, Parinita, for her help in reviewing the proofs. This work aims to provide significant relief to all those navigating the approval process in the building industry.
