Abstract: This study analyzes five Indian housing settlements by Balkrishna Doshi, Charles Correa, and Raj Rewal, built between the 1970s and 1980s, highlighting diverse scales and contexts. These projects—Cablenagar, ECIL, Asian Games Village, Aranya, and Navanagar—demonstrate strong links to Indian architectural traditions while exploring innovative urban forms. Central to their design is the street, viewed as a versatile public space fostering community interaction and adaptable to housing density and building height. The research emphasizes proximity between streets and homes, reflecting authentic Indian living. Overall, these settlements showcase experimental approaches to residence design, integrating social and spatial dynamics in urban planning.
