Abstract: The Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) for Sub-Centres (SCs), drafted in March 2006, provide a framework to enhance primary healthcare quality at the grassroots. The guidelines specify minimum services, manpower, infrastructure, equipment, drugs, and support needed for effective sub-centre functioning. They also address waste disposal, record-keeping, monitoring, quality assurance, and accountability. Annexures include immunization schedules, frontline workers’ roles, facility layouts, furniture, equipment, drug lists, registers, checklists, and assessment tools. By standardizing resources and processes, IPHS aims to strengthen sub-centres as the primary public health contact, improving healthcare accessibility and quality for rural communities.
