Abstract: In 2006, the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) established Janwani, which translates to “Voice of the People,” with the goal of promoting equitable and sustainable development in Pune for the benefit of its citizens. Launched under the leadership of Late Mr. B.G. Deshmukh, a former Cabinet Secretary of the Government of India, Janwani adopts a comprehensive, five-point approach. This approach is characterized by participative, collaborative, analytical, creative, and synergetic strategies, aimed at identifying priority areas and addressing gaps in Pune’s development process. Janwani focuses on providing well-researched, factual, and actionable solutions. The organization works to facilitate dialogue among Punekars, encouraging them to actively participate in shaping the future of the city they envision. By fostering collaboration between various stakeholders, including citizens, government bodies, and businesses, Janwani strives to create a more inclusive and prosperous Pune. Through its efforts, Janwani aims to bridge developmental gaps and ensure that progress benefits all sections of the population, ultimately creating a city that reflects the aspirations and needs of its residents.
