Abstract: This paper examines the symbolic themes in Le Corbusier’s design of Chandigarh, India’s first planned modern city. It explores how he incorporated elements such as primitivism, cosmology, rural and vernacular motifs, and iconography into the city’s layout and architecture. These themes reflect both universal concepts and local cultural narratives, presenting Chandigarh as more than a modernist city—rather, as a layered cultural statement.
