Abstract: This book examines the relationship between economic geography and political economy in India’s industrialization. It argues that industrial growth must account for both geographical factors (proximity to resources, markets) and political decisions (state policies on infrastructure and land use). Through detailed data analysis from various spatial levels, the book traces the evolution of industrial investment patterns, starting from the 1991 reforms, with historical context included. Findings show that post-reform investments are concentrated in coastal, advanced regions and metropolitan areas, with foreign direct investment favoring these locations. The study highlights the impact of market forces and state policies on industrialization patterns.
