Abstract: Hospitals are menat to ensure community health. It is thus surprising that till recently not enough attention has been paid to the disposal of medical waste, infectious waste can transmit numerous diseases in the community and put those who handle waste, and live in its proximity at risk. However, what is not commonly know is that only a small percentage (less than 10%) of the hospital waste stream is infectious, while another 5% is non-infectious but hazardous.
