Abstract: Urban development in India is increasingly critical due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and complex city management challenges. Effective governance requires integrating planning, financial management, land and estate oversight, transportation, water supply, housing, and environmental conservation. This study examines urbanization trends and their impact on municipal bodies and development authorities, highlighting innovative approaches such as information systems, corporate management techniques, and cost-effective solutions. Special focus is given to housing for the urban poor, traffic management, and sustainable resource use. Emphasizing public accountability, training, and capacity building, the study advocates combining modern management strategies with traditional planning to achieve sustainable and inclusive urban growth.
