Abstract: This study examines the complex relationship between crime, space, and the political economy in Mumbai. Using spatial statistics, crime mapping, and urban theory, it explores how socio-economic inequality, spatial segregation, and urban renewal shape crime patterns. The book categorizes crimes—including violent, property, white-collar, gender-based, and communal—while analyzing their spatial and socio-political dimensions. It highlights the role of state institutions, law enforcement, and urban planning in crime governance. Ultimately, it argues that urban space actively shapes both crime and punishment, offering an interdisciplinary framework to understand and address urban crime through more just and spatially aware policy approaches.
