Abstract: The National Conference on Urban Poverty Alleviation, held in Srinagar on June 18-19, 2005, focused on addressing urban poverty through community-driven initiatives and sustainable solutions. Key discussions included Kerala’s Kudumbashree program for women’s empowerment, Participatory Poverty Assessments (PPA) in Andhra Pradesh, and successful slum rehabilitation models in Mumbai, Chennai, and Pune. The conference also highlighted the role of sanitation, microfinance, and education in poverty alleviation, with a focus on the Self-Help Group movement and Pratham’s educational initiatives.
