Abstract: Dr. Balkrishna Doshi is a pioneering modern Indian architect, urban planner, and educator with a career spanning over seven decades. After studying at the JJ School of Architecture in Bombay, he worked with Le Corbusier in Paris and India. In 1955, Doshi founded Vastu-Shilpa, an environmental design office. His notable projects include educational campuses such as CEPT University, NIFT, and IIM Bangalore, along with numerous townships. Beyond his architectural achievements, Doshi is recognized as an influential educator, having founded and led the School of Architecture and Planning in Ahmedabad, which became a cornerstone for modern architectural education in India. He has also taught at prestigious American universities and served on various international juries. Doshi’s autobiography, *Paths Uncharted*, offers an intimate look at his life, from his modest beginnings in Pune to his collaborations with architects like Louis I. Kahn. It also highlights his relationships with key patrons, including Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. In 2018, Doshi was awarded the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize for his ability to blend functional design with a deeper connection to the human spirit. The book provides valuable insights into his career, philosophy, and lasting impact on architecture globally.
