Abstract: Pirate Modernity: Delhi’s Media Urbanism examines how urban planning, media infrastructures, and everyday life intersect in contemporary Delhi. The book explores the city as a site where modernist visions coexist with informal, “pirate” practices, showing how media technologies both shape and respond to urban life. It traces the circulation of information, communication networks, and cultural politics, while chapters on the “pirate kingdom” and incidents of death and accident reveal the city’s tensions, hazards, and inventive practices. Concluding with Delhi as an “information city,” the study highlights the implications of media-mediated urbanism for governance, modernity, and social connectivity.
