Abstract: This study examines the design and integration of playgrounds and recreation spaces in urban and suburban areas, focusing on their role in enhancing child development and community engagement. Drawing on examples from cities like Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Zürich, New York, and London, it highlights the importance of adaptive playgrounds, community centers, and innovative play equipment. The research emphasizes play’s role in promoting physical activity, social interaction, road safety, and urban greening. It also explores various design principles for creating safe, inclusive, and stimulating environments, with a particular focus on the innovative playgrounds found in London.
