Abstract: In 1979, the National Trust for Historic Preservation convened a conference in Williamsburg, Virginia, to chart the future of private sector involvement in American preservation. Sparked by a 1977 suggestion, the meeting followed years of federal preservation legislation and growing public interest. Participants discussed challenges and opportunities for the preservation movement, including the impact of federal policy, key legislation, and the increasing role of private sector initiatives.
