Abstract: The “Recommended Practice for Sealing of Joints in Concrete Pavements (First Revision) 2006” (IRC:57-2006), published by the Indian Roads Congress, provides updated guidelines for effective sealing of joints in concrete pavements. It aims to prevent water and debris ingress that can damage pavement structures. This 2006 revision reflects significant advancements in construction materials, techniques, and joint sealant technologies since the original 1974 edition. The document covers design considerations, types of sealants, installation procedures, and maintenance practices to ensure durability and performance of concrete pavements, thereby enhancing their service life and structural integrity under varied traffic and environmental conditions.
