Abstract: The Azhar Park Project in Cairo transformed a derelict landfill into a dynamic urban park, serving as a public green space and a driver of community renewal. Central to the initiative was revitalising the historic Darb al-Ahmar district through housing upgrades, infrastructure improvements, heritage restoration, and job creation. A significant achievement was uncovering and conserving the Ayyubid city wall, linking medieval heritage to the modern city. By integrating environmental enhancement, cultural preservation, and socio-economic development, the project offers a model for sustainable urban regeneration that balances community needs with the protection of historical and architectural assets.
