Abstract: The Labouring Poor in India: Patterns of Exploitation, Subordination, and Exclusion explores the structural inequalities and marginalization of India’s working poor in both rural and urban contexts. In rural areas, labourers face exploitation, limited access to resources, and entrenched social hierarchies. Urban workers, particularly in informal sectors, endure precarious conditions, insecurity, and restricted mobility. Beyond economic hardship, systemic exclusion extends into civic and social life, limiting participation and rights.
