Abstract: The growth of industrialisation created the need for structured development, prompting the Government of Maharashtra to take a significant initiative by enacting **The Maharashtra Industrial Development Act, 1961**. This legislation was introduced to ensure the planned and orderly establishment of industries within designated Industrial Areas and Industrial Estates across the state. A key feature of the Act was the formation of the **Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC)**, which was tasked with facilitating industrial development, infrastructure planning, and overall industrial promotion. The Act serves not only to support the development of industries but also to aid in their organisation and effective functioning. It was a crucial step in shaping Maharashtra into one of India’s leading industrial states.
