Abstract: The Maharashtra Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2002, aimed to ensure public access to information held by government bodies in Maharashtra, empowering citizens to request and obtain information. It mandated public authorities to designate Public Information Officers (PIOs) to handle information requests, establish procedures for submitting and responding to requests, and set up an appeals process. The Act also defined the duties of PIOs, including maintaining records of information requests and assisting citizens in accessing information.
