Abstract: “The Promised City” is an international project exploring the motivations and expectations of people moving to urban centers. In collaboration with the Polish Institute Berlin, Goethe-Institut Warsaw, and Goethe-Institut Mumbai, it connects Berlin, Warsaw, and Mumbai, examining their social, cultural, and economic dynamics. The project focuses on the shared German-Polish history between Berlin and Warsaw and contrasts this with the challenges of Mumbai as a megacity. By investigating the universal search for prosperity and fulfillment, the project fosters cross-cultural dialogue, revealing the common dreams driving people to cities worldwide. The results were reviewed between February and November 2010.
