Abstract: *Thresholds 18: Design and Money* examines how architecture, design, and economics intersect, shaping both creative practice and the built environment. Through essays, visuals, and critiques, contributors address topics such as advertising’s impact on architecture, humor as a lens on value, and the fusion of design with digital sampling and open-source culture. The issue explores microeconomies of design objects, funding models for urbanism, and the commercialization of utopian visions. Public-private dynamics are analyzed in terms of investment, sponsorship, and ownership. Collectively, the works reveal how money operates as both a limiting force and a driver of innovation in design.
