Abstract: A study on walkability in Mumbai proposes a comprehensive framework to assess pedestrian-friendliness at the neighborhood level. Moving beyond the mere presence of sidewalks, the framework incorporates factors such as safety, accessibility, connectivity, and environmental quality. It emphasizes that walkability should not be limited to infrastructure but should also consider how these elements collectively influence residents’ ability and willingness to walk to nearby destinations. By adopting this holistic approach, the study aims to promote more inclusive, safe, and supportive walking environments that cater to diverse community needs and encourage walking as a primary mode of local transportation.
