Abstract: The Walled City of Ahmedabad, spanning 5.8 sq.km and home to nearly 400,000 people, serves as the city’s cultural, administrative, and economic hub. Known for its rich architectural heritage, it also faces significant challenges, including inadequate infrastructure and severe traffic congestion, which has led to a decline in its residential population. To address these issues, a strategic redevelopment plan has been formulated, focusing on infrastructure upgrades and commercial development. The plan includes several public-private partnership projects designed to stimulate investment and make the redevelopment largely self-financing. Key to this initiative is the active leadership of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), which will oversee the organization, funding, and execution of the plan. AMC will finance the initial investments, recovering costs through special assessments on affected property owners and revenue generated from commercial developments. The aim is to revitalize the Walled City by improving infrastructure, attracting private investments, and restoring its economic and cultural vitality. This comprehensive approach seeks to balance preservation with modernization, ensuring sustainable growth and enhancing the livability of the area.
